With reference to your despatch of the 30th.
November, regarding the bounty on sugar exported from Formose,
I have the honour to inform you that I have just received a telegraphic answer from the Formosan Government to the follow-
-ing effect:-
1.
Formosa Government has never given any
export bounty on suar exported from the Island.
2.
Sugar cane planters in Formosa, are granted
by the Government cost of necessary seeds and a part of ex-
-penses for manure.

All export duties of the Island have been
abolished including those on sugar.
